Job Title:
NWN Podcast Creative Contributor

Job Type:
Volunteer

Job Description:

The NWN Podcast is recruiting members to serve as any or all of the following Contributors for the  Podcast and/or it’s website.  We are looking for individuals that have a passion for the Neverwinter Nights series of games and can commit several hours a week contributing to the podcast. NWN Podcast hosts weekly podcasts about the Neverwinter Nights gaming community.  Approximately 500 listeners tune in each week to listen to our podcast interviews, commentaries, news, and reviews.

The core functions of these positions include but are not limited to the following:

Contributor as a Producer
1. As a Podcast Producer you will receive raw audio from the host director for that week. The Producer will edit and cut the raw audio into the podcast episode using an Acid Pro template. The Producer may use what ever audio software they wish, but must produce a 45-60 minute episode from the template. The final mp3 file should be rendered at 64kbps, stereo. You will work with a current producer the first few times to make sure you have everything you need.

Contributor as a Host/Hostess
2. As a Podcast host/hostess you will join one or two other hosts to record that weeks episode. Episodes are recorded on Tuesday nights from 8-9 pm, 9-10 pm, or 10-11 pm CST depending on availability of all the hosts. One of the host will be the director for that week and using provided show notes templates will organize all show notes, news, main topic intro, and scripts needed for the show.  As a host/hostess you will rotate as the director on a periodic basis.

Contributor as a Interviewer
3. As a Podcast interviewer you will contact Neverwinter Nights community members, community representatives, module makers, persistent world game owners, game content creators, scripters, players, guild owners, NWN related web site owners, dungeon masters, or anyone related to the series of NWN games for NWN related interviews. Interviewing game company employees, such as designers and programmers will have to be coordinated through the company’s PR department. These types of interviews are big pluses and hardest to get. Once you have contacted a potential interviewee, you will schedule the interview and provide them all questions at least a week in advance of the interview. Using Skype and recording software like Audicity you will conduct, record, and edit a 30-40 minute interview for use in the NWN Podcast. Once finsihed let the interviewee hear the interview and approve it before you submit. You will submit fully edited, approved, and complete interview that is ready to be inserted into an upcoming episode.

Contributor as a News Writer
4. Identifies weekly news items, writes, edits, and provides them to the podcast hosts to be included in our News segment for the show. Items should be relative to Neverwinter Nights 1 and 2, or any of the expansions or premium packs. Content should include subjects relative to games, and the people who participate in games or the gaming companies. These works can be a general news about an module release, game patch releases/updates, release reviews, anything NWN news worthy. News writers will post their news items with all related links in our News forums for use by the host director.

Podcast Segment Contributor
5. Record and/or write creative audio/video segments relative to Neverwinter Nights content.  The segments would need to be 3 - 10 minutes long and always focus on a certain topic. Informative and funny too. We will consider segments for inclusion in podcast episodes, and highlight on the website. This could be, but is not limited to any of the following.

  • Videos taken from a persistent world or other modules.  Such works could also include a short audio clip stating a tip, news item, or opinion about game or module.
  • Classes, Races, Sub Races Characterizations - This one could be really fun to do by informing on these while playing them out in different voices/characters.
  • Character Creation - This could be played out using characters as they equip themselves, getting set to be an adventurer.
  • NWN1 and NWN2 Gaming Tips - create audio or video tips about the game.
  • Spoof “Ads” - these would be about objects found in game, potions, spells, weapons, scrolls, etc. Example: “Feeling weak? Then you need Pablo’s Potion of Pony Strength! Giving you 10X Strength. In no time you will be carrying all your companion’s junk, and your pony too!”  These should be gut busting funny!
  • This Just In Segment - Your a headline news reporter reporting on things that happen in the NWN OC, NWN2 OC and the expansions or premium packs. This could get really creative! The idea is to excite people to want to get in the games.
  • Scripting Segment - Informative segment about scripts and how to write them.
  • Custom Content Segment - Informative segment about CC, whats out there, and how to use or get it.
  • And if you have an idea not listed let us know and do it!

Module Spotlight Coordinator
6. Research and contact various module teams and persistent worlds from the NWN gaming community. Coordinate an audio spotlight with the Module makers and teams and offer to create a Mod Spotlight for them to advertise their works. If they wish they can also create their own or you create it for them. Once contacted work with and record or obtain the Mod Spotlight complete with music. This is a really fun position that allows you to meet lots of other gamers and establish a recognizable name in the community. Some examples of these are on the front page under Reviews.

Contributor as a Graphic Artist
7. Supply screenshots, videos, graphics, banners, etc. relative to nwnpodcast.com content and graphics needed each week for the podcast episodes. Each episode needs a 620X220 banner for feature section and 160X120 thumbnail image related to that episode.  One of the first request for the Grapics Contributor would be to create creative charactures of all present hosts and hostesses and then for any new host or hostesses.

Contributor as a Module Reviewer
8. An NWN Podcast module reviewer will play through any single or multi-player modules, or expansions they wish providing a written and audio review of the module or game. These reviews should be limited to  10-20 minutes, and upon approval will be inserted in an NWN podcast episode.
