Oh My! what a show that was to record. I hope everyone brought in the new year happy and safe.
Thank you again Fabien for the interview! You did a great job!
“blushes over the silly noises we make and now everyone else knows”
Milk-n-Cookies!
Michele
No time to listen now.. but I’m excited to have a new episode to hear!!! I’m off to bring my 5-year-old boy to a “battle sail” on a two-masted ship with cannons!!! I hope I don’t bring him home a deaf boy.. ahh.. the risks of being a pirate.
I’ve been curious about the Bastard of Kosigan for a long time but never played it. I was particularly curious about this podcast as a result. Fabien did a great job and I thought his English was very good, despite his gentle protests to the contrary during his interview. At the same time, I think it’s rather brave to participate in an interview using a secondary language. I’m very impressed.
Good way to start out 2008!
Amazing work! Really. I like the new intro quite a lot. and Fabian Cerutti in the begin me me grin quite broadly “The greatest podcast bout NWN…. and the only one too.” snickers
Oh and to all those who are nagging about me not making a first post. New schedule new work and no podcast out on friday makes me sleep when you guys put it out on saturday. Anyways Go you!
Oh and once more I wouldn’t mind if you guys put out some little note about what music pieces you use in the podcast because I really like em and would like to obtain the one or other for listening at home and anoying the neighbors.
Oh and one more.
Who is Lucy?
Hi there! Happy New Year!
(I’ve been drowned into champagne this year…and I survived only thanks to the bubbles!…)
I want to thank you again Michele(-the-gaming-chick) for your kindness, your sweet voice and your incredible laugh
And thank you too to Trey and Jay!…Their misprununciation of the “Batsard of Kosigan’s series is…well, almost perfectly mispronunced
Fabien “Kergaël” Cerutti
oh foxy you roll me LOL!! The Lucy I usually reference is a line from “I Love Lucy” TV show that Ricky Ricardo used to say.
Thank Jay for the new intros and extros, he created those. They are awesome arn’t they!!
The music for all interviews are using from one or more the modules of the interviewee. You should be able to go the Kosigan web blog to hear more. If the interview is not with a modder, we usually get a couple of there favorite songs and play as background intro.
“almost perfectly mispronounced” I guess we’ll have to work on that to get it perfect!
Your very welcome Fabien. I thank you for a great interview!
Michele
Hey we do our best to mispronounce! HA! Thank you Fab for taking us international!! And keep us informed of the feedback you get from over there!!
Viva la NWN1 !!!!
Once again… excellent interview.. Here’s to longevity.. I wish we could get all those players that dumped NWN1 (and I suppose #2) after playing once to put it back on their computers.
Fabien… thank you for sharing your time and perspectives on gaming.
I’m getting used to the new music.. it’s good music.. more of a stadium sound.. X-gamesish… though, I must admit feeling nostolgic for the old music too…
It looks like it’ll be a good year!!!
Dave
X gamish… yes that is how it sounds. Who likes Get Smart? We had like 7 samples to choose from and my favorite was a spy sounding music with guitar riffs called spyrite that too many thought of Get Smart when they heard it. So we agreed on the one that made it into the episode. Its called Burn Out. I think the show has some attitude now!!! LOL!!
Oh the French! Just makes English sound better (sexier). No wonder it’s called the ‘Language of Love,’ and he was funny too. “Allo NewYork, sell everything”. Maybe I will try being French for a while and see if that works.
“I wood likee to ‘ave a amburgeer.” Like Jay, I got all the references: Nine Princes in Amber, the Albigensian Crusade, and eve “Lucy.. I’m Home.” That’s when you know you’re getting old. Love the voices, and looking forward to the Nwn Romanian interview..kiss..kiss.
Oh.. I have another Jack and the Beanstalk trialer.. this one on youtube.. (and you can check my first one while you’re there, too.)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gTgmQQyHHYc
Enjoy!
Dave
Thank you for the compliments, ffbj
)
(Mmm…ffbj?…what a strange name indeed…Is it your mother who choosed it?
About the 2 musics that are going along with the interview, the first one is “Lionheart” from Carol Tatum (her group name is “Angels of Venice”), and the second one is The Bastard of Kosigan Movie Theme by Baudrand’s brothers (thanks Jean, thanks Alex).
“My” next interview is from Sweden actually.
I lived in Romania for a year. NWN didn’t even exist then. lol
*nibbles on some more cookies” Got Milk?
Actually, I didn’t understood whan Michele talked about “adult” content at the end of the interview…
So, I’d like to complete it here:
As one of the aims of my modeling work was to give a “real” flavour to these adventures, I did choose to integer some “sex” in them.
BUT, I want everybody to know that the paths that lead to these parts of the various conversation is cristal clear….Only those who really want to get the “action” on that matter will do…
So, even if you don’t like at all finding that sort of things in a game, you can play the Kosigan’s series without any fear: you won’t meet any “awkward” situation if you don’t want to find it…
(Of course I’m not responsible of the strengh of your curiosity…)
So I got curious.
It was well done and my curiosity never killed any cats!
“grins”
Thanks for the compliment Michele.
And, about the “cats”…err….well, I didn’t intended to kill them either…:)
(I’m not sure the punword works in english too, so I don’t know if this last sentence really means something for you)
No worries Fabien.
Curiosity killed the cat. However! Satisfaction brought her back!
we are talking 9 lives here. They can afford some curiosity. “smiles”
hmm sex + france= fitting shoe. As for cats. Chele purr fo us.
Anyways I am once more sitting on the Exile module hoping to find some time to actually play it through this time. Oh Fabien did you find time to play the witcher yet? You should and then you can taunt all the podcasters because we european get the uncensored version with the tastyness in it.
*send a magical flying kiss that flies over the sees, the mountains and the lands…directly to the sweet and soft as silk neck of Michele…and burst very smoothly into a light but kind of electrical shiver…
Thank you Michele, you made my day
Halloweenfoxy: Mmm!…Uncensored version? sounds great, but that means the USA players have a “censored” version???? Really? I’m astounding by this news! Is it something common?
I mean, it seems normal to protect young public in some way…but censoring the content for everybody…well…it seems very…against-the-liberty-ideal-of-the-States (arf! don’t know the word)…No?
Welcome to America… land of the free… where we say there is no censorship… but to get the rating needed to sell the game to a bigger audience.. the publishers often eliminate content.. they don’t call it censorship.. it’s the financial pressures of the marketplace.. also called gobble-de-gook.. double-speak.. welcome to Orwell’s 1984..
America is crippling itself to quell the concerns of religious fundementalist who have started voting together thus making politicians address their need while campaiging for office..
Thus.. a climate of fear surrounds any “adult” content.. thus our kids seek it out.. and get confused messages about it.. and thus our gender roles stay confused and guilt-ridden…
Ah… land of the free..
Sorry France.. thanks for the nice statue.. Liberty is a good thing… maybe we’ll figure that out some day.
Wow… sorry for the rant (grin)…
*applauses Dave!* Could not have said it better myself!!!
HalloweenFoxy: Do you mean that the version sold in Europe contains material that was censored from the one distributed in America? Can you give us a reference, or tell us some of what the differences are?
I can’t say this surprises me, though, and certainly not after seeing the offensively prudish “full body underwear” in NWN2. No need to apologize for your rant, Dave — I rather agree with you.
Great interview, Liso and Fabien! And thanks very much for the kind words *blushes*. You even pronounced my name right, although I have to say it sounds a lot better with a French accent.
It’s been a real pleasure to be able to work with Fabien on these modules. It’s also been a real challenge, as my French isn’t *nearly* as good as his English
Thank you Ginni, you did an awesome job!
Andarian We have both versions in our home. the UK release and US. The difference is some dialog, nudity, and curse words.
hope that helps.
Oh! So that’s not really censure…it’s the stupidity of editors, then…
I’ve got some difficulties to understand why they’d do that…especially for a computer game!!! (the customers are probably much more open-minded in the gamer part of the population, aren’t they?…so why going against his own public?…)
Ginni, it’s a real great pleasure to work with you too…You’re calm, perseverant, intelligent and open minded
Good to see you’re still mangling the names…
Fabien.. it’s basically censure… the company wants to get a rating on the game .. we rate movies.. games.. etc.. according to the content. Violence and Sex are what they base the ratings on.
A game’s rating lets parents know what’s gonna be in the box… NWN & NWN2 are both rated “T” for Teen.. meaning is should be appropriate for teenagers… If the rating is “M” for mature it means that a lot of parents won’t let the kid buy/play the game.
Of course a lot of parents couldn’t care less and don’t watch what the kids do anyway… and some go overboard.. But the ratings make it so many parents don’t look at the product at all and just go by the rating.
Now.. you can have lots of blood and violence and still get a Teen rating.. but any nudity and you get a Mature rating.. Americans fear nudity and sex.. so just alluding to anything romotely sexual can get you the dreaded “M” rating and limit your audience.
It may not sound like censure.. and it isn’t inteded to be censure.. but designers will change plots and stories to keep things from being sexual… Thus our kids grow up with little exposure to healthy sexual attitudes.. Thus many grow up thinking sexuality is bad.. we equate sex with sexuality..
It’s like many think that mentioning sex will make kids run out and rape people.. of course, we’re letting them see plenty of violence.. and we say that violence is bad.. and so.. since sex and violence are bad… say.. maybe sex is violent?? hmm..
Someday maybe we’ll figure out that our bodies are ok.. and that being open about sexuality is healthy.. but don’t hold your breath…. cest la vie
Simple questions, why do we censure sex, when it is supposed to be good, surronded with love, and passion, and naked bo…, sorry, but we let them watch violence, which is bloody, gross, and bad? I was given the choice between violence and sex; I vote sex.
“jumps in on this”
First off, Rated “M” There for (You’ve been informed) So why alter the original format? Parents are responsible to monitor what their children see, listen to etc.
Example of the state of mind here. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles! One of the most violent kids movies I’ve ever seem with out showing the blood and guts. Yet this is ok? When your 5 yo runs around kicking people due to the influence of this movie? *rolls eyes*
Sex sells? obviously. Look at a car commercials or a Victoria Secrets commercial! These are ok to exploit a perfectly natural human thing? gotta love the multiple standards where sex is ok or not. $$$
I rather have my children seeing sex as an act of love, respect, and heathy than to be tormented by blood, guts, rape, and “rape is not sex” rape is violence. The screwed views of what is “ok” to view or not is mind blowing.
I was reading “banned books in the US at one time or another” I about fell over when I saw classic master pieces that had hit the banned list here. Education of life is as vital as math, grammar and social studies.
ok my rant is over!
Anyone want a non-censored cookie? haha! And fake milk for Dave!
Michele said.. “Sex sells? obviously. Look at a car commercials or a Victoria Secrets commercial! These are ok to exploit a perfectly natural human thing. ”
Another lovely thing about our country.. Sex sells.. so… lets add this up… Violence and Sex are bad.. so .. Sex and violence to a kid are very similar… and we use sex to sell things.. so.. sex and money go together.. so.. we are training our kids to go pay for violent sex.. great..
Now.. don’t get me wrong.. I like watching movies with explosions and sword fights and sexy actors (that’s politically correct for both genders.. personally I like the female actors best).. It’s the messages that kids with parents that don’t talk to their kids about this stuff.. that’s what bugs me.
Granted.. my kids are only 5 and 2.. and we just caved in and let the 5-year-old watch Pirates of the Carrribean… but he’s been into guns/swords and ships for a long time.. it’s the skeletons I was concerned about.. But he had to see it… because WE GOT TO RIDE ON THE SHIP THAT WAS THE “Interceptor.” IN THE MOVIE!!! (pause for jealous responses).. We sailed last weekend in a Battle Sail in pea-soup fog… Dude!!!
… now.. where is my lactose-free milk product so I can get one of those non-censored cookies… oops.. I guess there are none.
Oh.. did I mention I have a mod coming out that is good for kids??
Here’s a link to the trailer.. in case you missed it.. (grin)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gTgmQQyHHYc
Oops .. forgot to say that it’s a new trailer.. trailer #2.. not the rockin’ one .. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gTgmQQyHHYc
in case you missed it.. (grin again)
Hey Ben, I think that its expected now. *comes to listen to see who’s name is butchered next.
*stands on top of the mountain and looks down on the avalanche I kicked lose* “WATCH MY DEED! *extends hand to the skies*
You know in germany where I actually got my game there is meant to be the strictest law on games and movies coming to maturity and stuff. The witcher is rated 18+ (means mature content) when I oprdered the stupid game at amazon believe it or not I had to wait 1 stupid week because the package was delivered at times I was not at home and the postman was not allowed to drop it off at a neighbor. Why. He needed MY idcard to confirm I am 18+ years old. So it works ion game stores to. Concluion. Why censoring a game only matures can purchase?
Nudity is good. Its fun its nice to look at and hey, wasn’T there this one guy saying “I had no sexual relationship with this woman!” while his crotch was still wet? So it cant be this bad. Really some of the people in the states should see a professional therapist and get over the complex they got. Girls not allowed to wear thongs on Malibu beach? *clears throat* I would like to see the man making that law then point a finger and laugh at him.
ok, since this IS the US Im going to have to censor and delete all these comments. You realize what searches our website is going to show up under now!!
nope tell us?
want me to add some more keywords and add some of the oficial intelligence services here *grins wiggles tail*
So, Halloweenfoxy, go and play my little “Bastard”…you’ll find adventure and some sex (if you want to)
(About sex and young people, I heard a saying that might interest you, it says: “When they don’t understand, well…they don’t understand…and when they understand…well…they understand!”)
Ashercon: :p…from far, we tend to think that 50% of the US people are cool and 50% are narrowminded…and I’m sure you’re on the good side (I don’t say which one…one never knows
).
Michele: I also realize later that you did ask for a signed version of the comic if ever it was to be released one day…Of course!
Thanks for the great podcast, Team!
I’m tempted to dust off my copy of NWN to play these modules of yours, Fabien – they sound like a blast!
The comic looks Awesome!!
Thank you very much jclef, and please do so, I’m quite sure you won’t regret it
You can even use the new portraits out of the comic project for your “own” bastard here (if you can rate them, do it) : http://nwvault.ign.com/View.php?view=Portraits.Detail&id=5623
You can yet play “Exile of the West”(episode1)…but wait a bit (a few days) before playing “The Bastard of Kosigan”(episode2) because there’ll be a newer version very soon.
And as I said, the next episode (3) will soon be released to (a matter of 3 weeks I think…because Ginni want to restructure some things, for we re-unit 2 mods in one).
Whatever, thanks for your interest.
Oops! I was so excited about Fabien’s interview that I forgot to mention how much I enjoy Jay and Trey! Sorry guys
You’re absolutely awesome! You make this podcast so much fun–thanks so much! And I love the new music
Thanks Ginni!! We are really glad you like the podcast! You have helped us bring the new year in big! These are the most comments we have received on an episode every! HA! Another record for you! Cheers!
