This episode Jay had the chance to talk with Ben Wyatt Husey and Tony Donadio about a new entity in the Neverwinter Nights Community; The Academy of Modding Excellence.
Ben Wynniatt-Husey – Has been a member of the NWN Community since the original Bioware Boards around 1999, and creator of the Hall of Fame Wanderer module series. In 2006 Ben wrote and designed the Wyvern Crown of Cormyr with the DLA Team as part of the Bioware/Atari Premium Module program. Currently Ben is the chairmen of the Academy of Modding Excellence, and a reviewer for the Neverwinter Nights Reviewers Guild.
Tony Donadio – Tony has also been a member of the NWN Community since the early days. He is probably best know to the community as the author of the Hall of Fame Series, The Sanctum of the Archmage. An avid player, builder, he wrote and ran a number of adventures as a DM, his current module development has focused on exploring RP Gaming as a new artistic medium to interactive story telling. Which we have talked about some of this previous Podcast! In addition to his current projects Tony is the Vice Chairmen of the Academy of Modding Excellence.

You know you guys are soooooooo bad. Not even started in the MotB. But then it allows for loads of teasing no? *grins*
Good job as per usual. Actually after that’s a rap had some of the more interesting comments. This is probably due to the fact that not thinking they are being recorded tends to put people more at ease.
Regarding persistence I have a much different take on what it really means, or more accurately how to best achieve the quality or feeling of persistence.
You cannot really have 1000′s of people inhabiting a town, you can only represent that. The actions of those people, even though they are not really visible, would have a much greater impact on the physical reality of the world than that of a handful of pc’s, like the goblin army attacking the city. You can allude to it or have some burned out buildings that resulted from it, but you can’t have bodies strewn everywhere, and people fleeing the city it droves.
I have thought quite a bit about this and how to incorporate the illusion of persistence into my campaign and the conclusion I came to was primarily how to reflect how the world reacts to each pc based on their actions, not on the attempt to change the physical reality of the world, which is being changed all the time by it’s inhabitants.
Regarding the comment about after ‘that’s a rap’ being more interesting – we all actually thought the same, and ended up discussing that for a bit too (not sure if that also made the show, as I’m still downloading).
Having real trouble downloading this, as the server keeps reseting. Managed to listen to the first hour. So far so good…
Great episode!! The after stuff was eye-opening.. I didn’t know that so many people still don’t know what it’s like to play with a DM.. I’ve led some DMed things and would love to get some inexperienced people in it..
not in a PW.. in a campaign world.. .. and not a railroaded, already plotted world.. I was shocked that people don’t know that with DMFI you can play on the fly.. all you really need is a stage..
I just released a prefab city that I’ll be using in some DMed stuff .. the guys I DMed with before I dropped of the planet have seen the city.. I’ll get a campaign page going on NWConnections and see if I get any hits..
DMed NWN1 is still alive!!!! .. And hopefully Jay is still OK after hacking a lung onto the microphone.. thanks for that.
Looks like the iTunes feed cut out after about 22 minutes — had to download the file from the website and import it.

Now for my problem! It seems as if some of the show is missing? like the interview and the end? It just cut off. I am downloading it this time instead of playing it from the site. see if I get the entire show this way. I’ll let you know if that works

Nope, that didn’t work either. It gets stuck at 17 mb of 34.
I got it all last night… 10pm PDT .. er.. I clicked the “play in popup” link and it played to the bitter (and it was pretty vivid) end.
On a completely separate and selfish note.. I have my first submission up on the Vault.. A City I’ve used for DMing in.. you can walk around it.. but there aren’t any encounters.. it is in the prefab catagory for others to work into their mods if they wish.

PS – check out my first entry into the NWNVault.. a prefab city.. The City of Torencia.. for those that don’t know.. a Prefab is a module minus the encounters.. so you can walk around it .. use if for your own DMed mods.. or build onto it..

It seems that new countdown code was hosing the rss feed. I removed it and downloads into ITunes work now. Ijust refreshed iTunes and it dled in about a minute. SORRY ALL!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Dave: when you include a link in your post, the spam filter catches it and Trey and Jay have to approve it before it will show up in the comments. That’s why your first two messages didn’t show up right away.
